Police make seventh arrest in connection to alleged gang rape of two women in city car park

A teenage boy has become the seventh person charged over an alleged gang rape of two women in a car park off Hindley Street in Adelaide's CBD.

WARNING: Readers may find details in this story distressing.

South Australia Police have charged the 16-year-old from Alberton with two counts of rape.

In a statement, police said investigations were ongoing and "detectives are aware there are a number of other people involved in the incident, and would encourage those people to come forward."

The boy appeared in the Adelaide Youth Court this morning and did not apply for bail.

However, the boy's defence lawyer told the court there was "quite a bit of material" that would need to be considered in relation to the allegations, and that an application for bail might be made at a future hearing.

The boy will appear in court again in February.

The other six arrests include a 20-year-old man from Gilberton, a 20-year-old man of no fixed address, a 23-year-old man from Kensington, a 21-year-old man from Clearview and 17-year-old boys from Newton and Blair Athol.

All of the accused have been charged with rape, except for the 17-year-old from Newton who has been charged with inducing a witness to withhold evidence.

During a bail application last week for the 20-year-old man from Gilberton, the Adelaide Magistrates Court heard seven males allegedly forced two women into the stairwell of a car park on Solomon Street at about 2am on Sunday, December 4.

Police prosecutor Brevet Sergeant Amanda Sparnan told the court that the women, aged 18 and 19, were repeatedly raped in the stairwell for more than 30 minutes.

Sergeant Sparnan said one of the women was allegedly forced to perform numerous sex acts with three men.

"Some raped, while others watched," she told the court.

She said the other woman was able to see down the stairwell and witnessed her friend allegedly being raped by others in the group.

The court heard one of the women managed to escape, but decided to go back to rescue her friend and was allegedly raped again.

"The whole incident lasted about 30 minutes," Sergeant Sparnan said.

She told the court that following the incident, one of the victims was offered money by one of the men to "cease any action".
