Police make gun and drug arrests after raiding homes

Police have made a number of arrests, including one for a gun offence, after raiding a number of homes in Merseyside.

Merseyside Police made arrests following a number of home raids as part of a policing operation in areas of Longview and Dovecot on Wednesday, March 8. Several homes were searched, a quantity of drugs seized, and vehicles were stopped during the operation, which was carried out to target those suspected of being involved in gang-related activity, disrupt their business and provide reassurance to the community.

A 19-year-old man from Huyton was arrested on suspicion of possession of a firearm without a licence, possession of Class C drugs with intent to supply and dangerous driving. A 32-year-old woman and a 33-year-old man from Dovecot were also arrested on suspicion of possession of cannabis with intent to supply.

A further two men from Huyton aged 40 and 52 were arrested on suspicion of drug driving. They have been taken to a police station in Merseyside for questioning.

Chief Inspector Tony Fairhurst said: "Today's activity is just one example of the work we are doing to relentlessly pursue those suspected of being involved in criminality. We are determined to disrupt criminals and deter them from committing crimes which are so damaging to our communities and we are working hard to identify, locate and arrest offenders.

"Anyone with any information about criminal activity is asked to call us, or Crimestoppers, anonymously, to help us in our work gathering evidence to arrest offenders and take them off our streets to make them safer places for those who live, work and visit Merseyside."

Anyone with information is asked to call Merseyside Police on 101, contact @MerPolCC on Twitter or Facebook, or Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
