Police looking to trace four men in relation to 'deliberate' car fires in Lanarkshire village

Police are looking to trace four men in connection with the deliberate torching of three cars in Calderbank.

As Lanarkshire Live reported yesterday, police were called out to Newbattle Avenue in the Airdrie village just before midnight on Monday, with Scottish Fire and Rescue Service offices attending and extinguishing the fires safely and no reports of any injuries.

The latest troubling incident has residents worrying about a "crime wave" in the area.

And detectives are now appealing for information relating to the vehicle blazes, which are being treated as "wilful fire-raising".

Three cars, a silver Mercedes ML250, a black Range Rover and a white Citroen Berlingo, were destroyed as a result and extensive enquiries are ongoing to trace four men who were seen in the area at the time.

Three of the men are described as being of slim build. The fourth man is described as being tall and of heavy build. All four were wearing dark clothing.

A dark coloured car was also seen in the area at the time of the fire.

DC William Murray told Lanarkshire Live : "Thankfully nobody has been injured as a result of this reckless act.

"We are treating the fire as deliberate and are asking anyone with any information to get in touch.

"Although this took place in the early hours of the morning, I would ask if you noticed anyone acting suspicious in the area to get in contact with police.

"I would also appeal to anyone who has possible dash-cam or CCTV footage that may be able to assist us with our enquiries."

Anyone with any information is asked to Police Scotland by calling 101.

Alternatively, Crimestoppers can be contacted anonymously on 0800 555 111.
