Police looking for family of woman found dead in Manchester flat as investigation continues

Police are looking to find the family of a woman who was found dead in her flat in south Manchester.

Monika Eisen was tragically found dead at her home on Princess Road in Moss Side on Saturday, April 23. Officers were called to the scene at around 4.20pm to reports the 64-year-old had been found by her neighbour.

Just under three hours later, officers were then called to a neighbouring flat over a concern for the welfare of a man. Paramedics then discovered a man dead inside, who has since been named as David Harry.

In the latest update issued by Greater Manchester Police, detectives said the deaths 'may not be connected' but that an investigation was ongoing. 'Direct third-party physical involvement' has been ruled out and police have said that there is no wider risk to the community.

Today (April 27), officers have put out an appeal to try and find Ms Eisen's family. A tweet posted by the GMP Longsight and Moss Side account read: "#APPEAL I Police are appealing for help to trace the family of a woman from Moss Side. Monika Eisen (27/6/57) was found deceased at home on 23 April.

"Police are investigating her death. Anyone with information about Monika’s family should contact the Coroner on 0161 856 3485."

A spokesperson for Manchester Coroners' Court confirmed that records of both Mr Harry's death and Ms Eisen's death have been made with the coroner.

Touching tributes for both Mr Eisen and Mr Harry were left outside the flats, near to the junction with Bowes Street, on Monday as police investigations continued at the scene. Residents who live in the tight-knit community told of their shock as police and forensic officers descended on the flats over the weekend.

The neighbour who discovered Ms Eisen in her flat, as she cooked meals for her on a daily basis, described her as being very popular in the area. "Everyone knew her as she would always be sat outside," she said.

"People would love coming to talk to her and buying her a drink from the shop."

Mr Harry's brother said his family had not been able to contact him for some days, with family members breaking into his flat to find him as police and paramedics attended the woman next door. "We're just completely shocked," he said, "we have no idea how this has happened or what's happened, it's just such a shock and so sad."

GMP's Superintendent Mark Kenny said: "The deaths may not be connected but at this stage the precise cause of death cannot be established. However, we can rule out direct third-party physical involvement. I would like to reassure the community that there is no wider risk at this time.

"Detectives are now investigating the circumstances to ascertain the cause of death and will remain at the scene while the investigation is ongoing."
