A manhunt is underway in Adelaide's north-western suburbs after a group of people stabbed a man early this morning.

Police say the group approached a young man in Rosewater on Grand Junction Road and stabbed him in the chest and abdomen about 4am.

The victim, a 25-year-old from Largs North, was treated at the scene before being taken to the Royal Adelaide Hospital in a serious but not life-threatening condition.

Police are now searching for the suspects who fled the scene on foot.

Detectives believe the assault occurred on Gray Terrace, which was closed this morning between Grand Junction Road and Margaret Terrace, but has now reopened.
