Police have locked down a quiet cul-de-sac in a Scottish Borders town after a missing 11-year-old girl was found 'safe'. Kaitlyn Easson was reported missing in Galashiels on Sunday night after failing to return home after being out with pals.
A major search operation was launched to find the primary school pupil with the River Tweed scoured by specialist water rescue teams as dozens of volunteers took to the streets.
Police Scotland announced the child had been found ‘safe and well’ after being missing for around 27 hours and has been reunited with her worried family. Officers have now cordoned off a property in Montgomerie Terrace in the village of Gattonside - which is around three miles from where Kaitlyn was last seen.
One local resident said: “Police arrived late last night and put up the tape. One of the neighbour’s said they saw officers putting someone into a police car.”
Police Scotland have been contacted for comment.
We previously told how police, firefighters, mountain rescue teams and countless volunteers spent hours combing the area where Kaitlyn was last seen in the town centre on Sunday.
The youngster was spotted alone near the interchange at around 5.45pm before a further possible sighting on Melrose Road around 10 minutes later.
During a press call on Monday after, Chief Superintendent Catriona Paton said she would have been around a ‘20 minute walk’ from her home.
And despite saying that there was no evidence she had come to harm, the police chief stressed that concern for Kaitlyn’s welfare was growing due to the length of time she had been missing.
At around 10.30pm on Monday, officers announced that Kaitlyn had been found ‘safe and well’.
