Police launch probe after reports of girl being approached by man in white van near West Lothian primary school

Police have launched a probe after a young girl was approached by a man near a West Lothian school.

The Daily Record reported officers raced to Rannoch Road in Whitburn after the alarm was raised at around 1.05pm on Monday September 5. It's understood the girl was approached by a man who was 'in a white van'.

The panicked youngster sought help from someone nearby as police were alerted. The incident happened near both Whitdale Primary School and Whitburn Academy.

One worried local said: "I heard it was a high school girl and she was approached by a white van in the Rannoch Road area. The young girl sought help from nearby and a person assisted the girl after it happened."

Other locals reported hearing sirens as police scrambled to the scene. Officers are now appealing for information.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Police were called around 1.05pm on Monday, September 5, following the report of a man approaching a child on Rannoch Road, Whitburn.

“Enquiries are currently ongoing to establish the full circumstances surrounding the incident and anyone with any information is asked to contact police on 101 quoting incident 1720 of September 5.”
