West Yorkshire Police has announced a new operation to tackle criminals stealing motorbikes and using them to commit crime. Police say it is causing big concerns amongst the East Leeds communities.
West Yorkshire Police in partnership with local councillors are launching Operation Diesel Crest in a bid to monitor crimes, offer bike protection advice and stopping legal motorcyclists. Officers from the East Leeds Neighbourhood Team will be working closely with agencies to gather intelligence.
Areas such as Crossgates have faced issues with bike crime in the past. With some residents now claiming there is 'drag racing' and general anti-social behaviour happening in their neighbourhoods.

The motorcycle community in Leeds are expected to also benefit from this operation. The force are asking legal riders to place better security measures including disc locks and chains on their vehicles to prevent theft.
Police will be performing stops on legal motorcyclists for a chat to give them prevention advice, noting they are not out to target the wrong people. They want to keep genuine bikers safe and keep their precious motorcycles out of the wrong hands.
In a statement, West Yorkshire Police said: "Officers from East Leeds Neighbourhood Team have set up a new operation to target criminals stealing motorcycles and using motorcycles to commit crime.
"We are fully aware that these issues form some of the biggest concerns and frustrations amongst our communities, ourselves included.
"We are requesting that if you know anyone who is involved in these crimes or you know where illegal motorcycles may be used and stored please get in touch quoting #opdieselcrest in your report."
