Police are investigating a suspected murder after a woman was found dead at a house in Newport. Gwent Police said the woman was found unresponsive at a property in the Bettws area of the city on Tuesday afternoon.
Officers arrived at the Leach Road address at 1.55pm on Tuesday, May 24, and paramedics also attended, but the 79-year-old woman was pronounced dead at the scene.
A murder investigation has since been launched and a 51-year-old man from Newport has been arrested. He remains in police custody and officers say they are not looking for anyone else in connection with the investigation.
A Gwent Police spokesperson said: "Her next of kin have been made aware and are being supported by specialist officers. We've launched a murder investigation and a 51-year-old man from Newport has been arrested on suspicion of murder."
