Police launch manhunt after victim, 29, stabbed to death on leafy cul-de-sac

Police are hunting a knifeman after a 29-year-old male was stabbed to death in the street on a leafy cul-de-sac in a city suburb last night.

Emergency services dashed to Handsworth Wood, Birmingham, at just after 11pm and, though paramedics battled to save the young man, he was pronounced dead at the scene.

A manhunt has been launched for the killer and a cordon remains in place in the area while forensic examinations are carried out, Birmingham Live reports.

No arrests have been made at this stage.

West Midlands Police said extra officers will be in the area on patrol over the next few days while house to house enquiries are carried out.

A murder investigation has been launched after the man was found with knife injuries (SWNS)

Detective Inspector Jim Mahon, from the force's homicide unit, said: “We are in the very early stages of our enquiry and we are asking anyone with information who hasn’t already spoken to us to come forward.

“The victim’s family have been informed and we have specialist family liaison officers with them after hearing just devastating news.”

Anyone with information has been urged to contact police via Live Chat on their website or by calling 101 quoting log 4527 of 21/10.

Speaking from the scene, Birmingham Live reporter Josh Sandiford said: "In front of me there are two police vans and a police car as well as police tape and a number of uniformed officers manning the scene.

"It’s a very quiet area just around the corner from Cherry Orchard Primary School."

Paramedics battled to save the victim but he died at the scene (SWNS)

No further details about the victim, including his name and where he is from, have been disclosed at this stage by West Midlands Police.

But a grieving loved one penned "fly high brother" on a piece of paper, alongside a bouquet of flowers and a case of beer, in poignant tributes left at the scene.

The tribute reads: "RIP. You will never be ever forgotten. Fly high brother as your wings will always be behind us all. You will be sadly missed but we will always be there for you. RIP Bro."

The investigation continues.
