Police launch investigation after man in 60s found ‘on fire’ in Hackney

An investigation is underway after a man who was found on fire has died in northeast London.

Met police officers were called by London Fire Brigade to Albion Road in Hackney early on Thursday morning after reports that a man was on fire.

Despite best efforts by emergency services, the man believed to be in his 60s, died at the scene.

Police are informing his next of kin and formal identification is yet to take place.

“At this early stage, the death is being treated as unexplained but not suspicious while the circumstances are investigated,” Met Police said.

The area is cordoned off while the investigation by London Fire Brigade and Met Police is ongoing.

London Fire Brigade said firefighters were called to Albion Road just before 4.30am but sadly the man was pronounced dead. Firefighters left the scene around 20 minutes later.

Four fire engines and around 25 firefighters from Islington, Holloway and Stoke Newington fire stations attended.

Meanwhile, the death of another man found on fire at Belvue Park in Northolt on Monday is being treated as suspicious.

Detectives from the Met’s Specialist Crime Command are leading the investigation into the discovery.
