Police are investigating an attempted break-in at a bank in Altrincham. Thieves fled empty-handed after smashing the front doors of Barclays in George Street sometime overnight on Thursday.
On Friday afternoon shattered glass could be seen on the floor outside the bank. A Barclays spokesperson said the branch had been closed while repairs were carried out.

A Greater Manchester Police spokesperson said: "At around 7.30am this morning, police received reports of an attempted burglary which had taken place on George Street in Altrincham sometime between 5pm on September 22 and 7am on September 23. Unknown offenders had smashed the windows of the front door on the Barclays Bank on George Street in an attempt to gain entry before fleeing the scene.
"The investigation is ongoing and police are pursuing lines of enquiry."
A spokesperson for Barclays said: "I can confirm an incident took place at our Altrincham branch in the early hours of Friday morning. The branch will be closed for the remainder of the day and we are assisting the Police with their investigation."
