Police launch hunt for firebugs after deliberate blazes in Kilmarnock town centre

Fires that engulfed two spots in Kilmarnock town centre at the weekend were deliberate, police have determined.

Cops and fire crews were called out twice on Friday night after high street spots were torched on Friday night.

Emergency services were first called out to a property on King Street just before 8pm.

A short time after, at around 10.55pm, police were made aware of another fire outside a building on Sandbed Lane.

No one was injured as a result of the fires.

Initial investigations have led detectives to believe that both fires were deliberate.

Police have now launched extra patrols in the area.

Detective Sergeant Sarah Holland, of Kilmarnock CID, said: "Our enquiries are ongoing and anyone who may have seen anything suspicious on the evening of Friday, 20 May, is urged to get in touch.

“I would also ask any motorists who were in the area to check their footage in case it holds any information that may assist us.

“Additional patrols have been put in place to provide reassurance and anyone with any concerns is encouraged to speak directly with an officer.

"Anyone with information is asked to contact Police Scotland via 101 quoting reference number 3875 and 4207 of Friday, 20 May, 2022 or by calling Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.”
