Police launch appeal after teenage girls assaulted at Lanarkshire Leisure Park

Two teenage girls have been assaulted following a large scale disturbance at a Lanarkshire leisure centre.

Police are appealing for information following a rammy between two groups of teens at the Showcase Leisure Park, Coatbridge.

The incident took place at around 8.25pm on Friday, March 25, when a 14-year-old girl suffered serious injuries. She was taken to the Royal Hospital for Children in Glasgow for treatment.

A 13-year-old girl was also assaulted.

DC Shemain Murphy told Lanarkshire Live: “We are treated the attack on the 14-year-old girl as a serious assault and also investigating the assault of the 13-year-old.

"However, I have no doubt others were injured during this incident and I would urge anyone to come forward who has information about what happened.

“This incident took place in an area busy with people trying to enjoy their evening. The large crowd of youths caused a disturbance which was particularly intimidating for young children and families.

“With the area being busy, people may have taken pictures or videos on their mobile phones of what happened. There may also be dash-cam footage from the carpark."

Anyone with any information, pictures or footage of the incident, is asked to contact Police Scotland on 101.

Information can also be left anonymously via Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
