Two people arrested on suspicion of murder in connection with the death of Widnes mum Vera Anderson more than 30 years ago have been released under investigation pending further enquiries.
Cheshire Police announced on Wednesday it had arrested a 70-year-old man from Widnes and a 61-year-old woman from Warrington. Mother-of-two Veronica Anderson, 42, known as Vera, was found dead with her throat cut in her car on land off Tannery Lane in Penketh shortly after 3am on Sunday, August 25, 1991.
A glove stained with blood that was later forensically matched to Vera was found nearby. She had left her home at 10.10pm the previous evening after receiving a phone call.

The case has remained unsolved for three decades. Appeals for further information were published and broadcast around the time of the 30-year anniversary of her death last year and in 2020.
In a statement issued this morning, a Cheshire Police spokeswoman said: “Detectives investigating the murder of Vera Anderson which took place on August 24, 1991, in Penketh, Warrington have arrested two people.
“On Wednesday, March 23, a 70-year-old man from Widnes and a 61-year-old woman from Warrington were arrested on suspicion of murder. They have both been released under investigation pending further enquiries.”
Speaking as part of an appeal issued in September, Detective Inspector Adam Waller said: “Vera’s family have been left devastated by her death and have had to live with what happened since 1991. The family have never received closure from Vera’s death and I would appeal to anyone with information to come forward.
"Someone must know what happened that day and I would appeal to them to get in touch. We appreciate that 30 years is a long time ago but the smallest detail may help us in bringing justice for Vera and her family.”
