Police issue update after man 'seen carrying knife' near Salford Quays

Police have issued an update after a man was reportedly seen wandering through Salford with a knife.

A police helicopter was seen flying over Salford Quays and Ordsall last Thursday (July 15) while officers descended on Trafford Road following reports of a man carrying a blade.

Greater Manchester Police confirmed that a man was arrested in connection with the incident last Thursday evening, but he has since been released with no further action.

A GMP spokesperson told the Manchester Evening News : "Intelligence suggested that a male taken into custody at a different location may have been the same man reported to have been seen on Trafford Road.

"Further investigation has established this is not the case, and the individual in question has been released with no further action."

Enquiries into the incident last Thursday are still ongoing, GMP says.

Police were first called out to the scene at 3pm after passers-by claimed to have seen a man armed with a knife.

Witnesses said six police cars rushed to the scene, along with a helicopter searching the area.

No injuries were reported following the incident, GMP said.

Eyewitnesses reported seeing construction workers in the roadworks area by Ordsall Road speaking to police about a knife, with patrols heading up towards Salford.

Another witness reported seeing armed police and sniffer dogs in the area, with office workers told to stay inside as police worked.
