As the Manchester Evening News reported earlier today, footage of the attack was circulated online. In it a man is seen approaching another person, before another figure then appears to jump on him and punch him.

Someone then steps in and tries to split the fight up, then others are seen throwing punches. One witness said: "It was a fist fight. I don't exactly know what happened. I just decided to call the police and help the guy out."

Supt Richard Thompson said: "I am pleased with the quick action from officers who arrived on scene and took appropriate action to bring the matter to a swift conclusion. Thankfully no one was seriously injured but Greater Manchester Police will not tolerate violent disorder.

"We are pursuing lines of inquiry to piece together the circumstances surrounding this incident and are aware of videos circulating online showing this attack."

Anyone who witnessed the attack or who has footage of it is asked to contact police online quoting incident number 2404 of January 20, or call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
