Police issue 'avoid the area' warning in Edinburgh as 'suspicious item' found

EXPLOSIVE ordnance crews are in the Scottish capital after a potentially suspicious item was reported to police.

The item was reported at around 4.55pm on Wednesday in Loganlea Gardens in the Craigentinny district of Edinburgh.

Police Scotland said Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) had attended on Wednesday night and a cordon was put in place in the area.

Residents in Loganlea Gardens, Loganlea Place and Loganlea Drive had been asked to keep their windows shut and remain inside.

A number of nearby homes had also been evacuated as a precaution. The item was later examined and it was established there was no risk to the public. There is also not believed to be any suspicious circumstances. Evacuated residents were able to return to their homes.
