Police have issued an update after a group of around 12 young males behaved in a 'violent disorderly manner' in the Arndale centre on Tuesday night (October 25). Officers raced to the shopping centre following reports of a young male armed with a knife at around 5pm.
A group of youngsters had been determined as behaving in a violent manner. Four teens were forced to the ground and arrested at the scene before a fifth boy was arrested outside the centre.
However, in an update, the force has said there was actually group of 'around 12', with the rest of the group running off from the scene. Enquiries into the incident remain ongoing.
Shop workers spoke to the M.E.N of 'screams' heard from the first floor of the Arndale moments before swathes of police ran into the centre through the main front doors. A group of males were shouted at by officers to get onto the ground in dramatic scenes moments before they were arrested.
A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Police said: "At around 5pm yesterday evening, October 25, officers were called to reports of a young male armed with a knife and a large group of young males behaving in a violent and disorderly manner at the Arndale Centre in Manchester.
"GMP’s officers rapidly attended the scene and secured the local area. Five males were arrested at the scene for violent disorder and have since been released on police bail with conditions, pending further enquiries. No injuries were reported.
"It is believed that the group originally consisted of approximately 12 young males aged between 12-16 years of age at the time of this incident. However, the remaining suspects left the scene before officers could apprehend them."
