Police investigation launched after person falls from first floor window in North Shields

Police have launched an investigation and have cordoned of a section of a North Shields street after a person fell from a window.

A cordon has been erected by police around a number of shops on Saville Street after a person broke their leg after falling from a first floor window on Friday evening. The cordon remained in place on Saturday morning and stretched between the Just Italy Cafe, Billy's Fishing Tackle, and the Transilvania Mini Market. A cordon had also been erected outside of the Hydro World shop further down the street.

Northumbria Police is yet to provide details on what the incident involved, but the North East Ambulance Service confirmed one person had sustained injuries. Smashed glass could also be seen on the pavement directly outside the Transilvania Mini Market after a window in the flat above appeared to have been smashed. One police car remained on the street as two officers in an unmarked car conducted inquiries on the road at around 10am.

A spokesman for the North East Ambulance Service said: "We were called at 8pm last night (December 30) to reports of a patient who had fallen from a first floor window in North Shields. A paramedic crew attended and treated the patient for a fractured leg before taking them to hospital."

Two officers left the scene shortly after 10am on Saturday morning as the marked police vehicle remained on the street. No other damage could be seen at the other businesses on the street.

Northumbria Police said: "We're investigating an incident which happened last night on Saville Street in North Shields at 8pm where a male was injured. We would encourage anyone with information to call 101."
