A man was taken to hospital with injuries consistent with a bladed article sustained in broad daylight in Wallsend.
Officer from Northumbria Police have launched an investigation into the incident following reports of the incident shortly on High Street West, Wallsend.
It was reported that all parties involved in the disturbance were known to each other.
A section of High Street West, near the Queen's Head pub, was taped off by police on Sunday afternoon. There were a number of police vehicles parked up near the cordon.
The North East Ambulance Service (NEAS) said they attended the scene after receiving reports of a person injured as a result of an incident. They confirmed they had taken one patient to hospital by ambulance.
A NEAS spokesperson said: "We received a call to 999 at 3:12pm on Sunday afternoon to reports of a person injured as a result of an incident on High Street in Wallsend. Police also attended.
"We sent a specialist paramedic and an emergency ambulance crew and took one patient to hospital."
As it stands, Northumbria Police did not confirm whether any arrests had been made in relation to the incident and the investigation remains ongoing.
A Northumbria Police spokesperson said: “Shortly after 3.20pm on Sunday, we received a report of a disturbance having taken place on High Street West, Wallsend.
“It was reported that a man had been assaulted and was taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries to his arm consistent with having been caused by a bladed article.
“An investigation is ongoing and officers believe all parties involved are known to each other."
