Police investigating alleged threats made against girls accused of assaulting 13-year-old

Police have launched an investigation into threats allegedly made against three teenagers accused of an attack on a 13-year-old girl on the Sunshine Coast.

Three girls, aged 12, 13 and 14 years old, have been charged with deprivation of liberty and assault, accused of luring the teenager to a Tewantin property and holding her against her will.

Shocking vision emerged on social media of the teen allegedly being assaulted, taunted and cut with a knife over the period of several hours on March 11.

Detectives told the public on Wednesday to stop sharing the video online.

The three teens will face the Maroochydore Childrens Court again in coming weeks.

A Queensland Police Service (QPS) spokesman confirmed officers have commenced an investigation in relation to threats being levelled against the girls, but declined to detail the nature of the incidents or allegations.

"It would be inappropriate to comment further and inappropriate to identify a victim of crime," the spokesman told the ABC.

"To ensure community safety, police recommend members of the public not engage in methods of disrupting criminal activity or reprisal which may involve risk of personal harm or further legal recourse."

In a statement, QPS said those who attempt to take matters into their own hands could "face harm or in some cases could themselves face legal recourse dependent on their actions".
