Police investigating after man 'hit by onion' on busy Edinburgh street

POLICE are investigating after a man was "hit by an onion" on a busy street in Edinburgh.

The man was walking outside the Greggs on Gorgie Road in the Scottish capital on Wednesday when two youths on electric bikes threw an onion at him.

One witness told the Daily Record that the onion hit the man "like a rock".

They said: “I was just walking down Gorgie Road when two teens on electric bikes zoomed past and one threw an onion at some guys standing opposite us.

“Happened right opposite the Greggs around 9.20pm on Wednesday.

“Sounds silly, but the (large) onion disintegrated on impact and hit the guy right in the back of the head. Made a loud sound (both the impact and the bloke), the guy dropped to his knees looking dazed, so it looked more serious as it reads.

“He was with his mates, so I left him with them, but the man thought he was hit by a rock."

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Officers received a report of an assault on Gorgie Road. Enquiries are ongoing.”
