Police investigating after boy 'shoves' BBC reporter in the back while on air

Police are currently investigating after a BBC reporter was 'shoved' in the back by a young boy.

At the time, Lucinda Adam was doing a live broadcast for South East Today's 6pm segment when the boy suddenly showed up.

The young boy had his hood up and started off by smiling and dancing while she talked outside Brighton Railway Station.

A few moments later, he appeared to have pushed the reporter forward towards the camera.

He then ran off.

Following the incident, she took to Twitter to explain what happened with followers.

"Reporting live from #Brighton tonight when a young boy about 8 started mucking about waving his arms behind me," she tweeted.

"We’ve all been there, but then he shoved me hard in the back before running off."

Lucinda added: "The saddest part is his mum was across the road egging him on and you can hear her howling with laughter. It’s not funny, it’s assault while someone is doing their job. Where has kindness gone?"

She went on to reassure everyone that she was fine, 'just a bit shaken, quite angry and a bit sad.'

Sussex Police confirmed yesterday evening that they are investigating the incident and have contacted Lucinda.

A spokesman said: "Police received a third-party report of an assault in Queens Road, Brighton on Tuesday evening.

"Contact has been made with the victim and enquiries are ongoing. Anyone with information is asked to contact police online or call 101 quoting serial number 1433 of 01/03."

Lucinda isn't the only female reporter who was harassed while on air.

She retweeted other victims' stories onto her timeline, one from Lauren Moss and one from Fiona Irving.

In February of 2020, Lauren said: "Pretty distressing day in Brighton so far.

"A member of the public threw a cup of hot chocolate at me and screamed abuse about how he hates the BBC, literally moments before I went on air for @bbcsoutheast this lunchtime. Luckily the drink missed my face and hit my coat instead."

Over a year later, also in Brighton, Fiona tweeted: "Reporting live on the refuse collectors strike in #Brighton today when around 7 men jumped in front of the camera shouting aggressive and threatening terms.

"It’s not funny. It’s misogynistic. Just calling it out."
