Police investigate serious assault and three other incidents after disturbing video circulates showing boy covered in blood and screaming on the ground in Oldham

Three people have been arrested after a sickening attack on a male victim in Oldham. Horrific footage shows him being beaten by a number of people.

Blood can be seen pouring from the victim's face as he is pinned down and repeatedly hit and kicked whilst screaming on the floor. One of the attackers shouts 'strip him' and his clothes are then ripped off during the vicious attack before he is left naked and in a bloodied heap on the floor.

The attack, which happened on June 21, was followed by related attacks at three properties in the Westwood and Werneth areas of Oldham, police say.

The Manchester Evening News has taken the decision not to publish the video at this time.

Today, a community meeting was held in the car park of Oldham's Grand Venue Banqueting Hall on Featherstall Road North close to where the attack is said to have happened in the Westwood area of the town. There, a representative from Greater Manchester Police (GMP) told the over 100 people who gathered that they had already made three arrests in relation to the incident.

"We know there are other in people involved" the GMP spokesman added. "If we can identify those people, we will also arrest those," he said, describing the investigation as "ongoing."

He acknowledged that "emotions are high" following the incident and that some people in the area felt the police had been "slow on the uptake." However, he said officers had now "stepped up" their investigation as he appealed for calm.

In a statement, Detective Chief Inspector Matthew Walker, of GMPs Oldham District, added: “We are fully aware of the situation in Oldham yesterday and we have since launched an investigation in which we are following up on a number of lines of enquiry to establish who the offenders are.

“I’d like to reassure the public that we believe these incidents to be targeted with no wider risk to the public. There will be an enhanced police presence in the area today and I’d like to ask any member of the public who has concerns about the events of yesterday, or anyone who has any information at all to please contact police”.

"We will not tolerate any acts of violence and we are doing all we can to identify the people involved”.

Anyone with information is asked to contact 101, quoting log 1708 of the 3rd July 2022.
