Police investigate attempted abduction in Elizabeth Park

Police are searching for a man after the attempted abduction of a teenage girl in Adelaide's northern suburbs.

Police said after 2:30pm on Wednesday, a teenage girl was walking along Ifould Road adjacent to Freemont Park in Elizabeth Park when she was approached by an unknown man.

The girl reported that as the man walked past, he grabbed her arm and tried to pull her toward him.

The girl told police she broke free, but the man grabbed her arm a second time and then grabbed her backpack.

Police said the girl fought the man off and ran away.

He is described as being of Caucasian appearance, about 40 years of age, 165 centimetres tall with short, grey hair and a chubby build.

He was wearing an open blue and green button-up shirt, shorts and black thongs.

The girl's mother posted on Facebook that her 14-year-old daughter was a bit shaken up, but doing OK.

She told the ABC the family was still trying to process what has happened and warned other teens to stay safe.

"[We] just want people to be aware," she said.

"Pay attention to their surroundings as every little detail helps.

"When walking, walk in groups when possible, you can never be too safe.

"We are just thankful she managed to get away and is safe."

Anyone who saw a man fitting that description in the area is asked to call Crime Stoppers.

Police are still investigating a separate incident from last month where a 17-year-old boy was abducted in Somerton Park.

The boy was forcibly pushed into the back seat of a car before it became stuck in traffic and he was able to escape.

Police later released a computer-generated image of one of the suspects.
