Police introduce stop and search powers in area of Oldham after two boys attacked

Police have been granted a section 60 authority in an area of Oldham.

The authority will run in Limeside for 24 hours and first came into place at 7pm this evening (June 23). It will therefore end at 7pm on Saturday (June 24).

The authority grants officers extended powers to stop and search individuals within the designated area. It has been granted following two separate incidents on Thursday (June 22) and Friday (June 23).

Police said two boys were attacked in the two incidents, which are thought to be unrelated to one another. Extra police will be on patrol in the areas covered by the authority, which includes Limeside Park and some areas of Hollins.

Anyone with information relating to the two attacks, such as CCTV, doorbell or dashcam footage, is asked to contact GMP.

“If anyone has any information that could assist us with our enquiries, please do come forward. Extra patrol officers have been deployed around the local area both on foot and in patrol cars. If you have any concerns about this incident our officers will be happy to provide reassurance and listen to any of your queries.”
