UPDATE: Man fighting for life in hospital after 'violent incident' at pub in Stretford
Police have responded to an incident in a pub tonight, closing off Barton Road in Stretford.
Officers sealed off the area between the Sevenways Roundabout and Melville Road as they carry out an investigation.
There was a heavy police presence inside and around The Melville pub.
Transport for Greater Manchester wrote on social media: "Barton Road, Stretford is closed in both directions between Sevenways Roundabout and Melville Road due to a police incident.
"Please use an alternative route."
Stagecoach tweeted: "****Urgent Update**** 25 & 256 srv.
"Due to the Police closure of Barton road we are unable to serve Between seven ways roundabout and lostock circle, diverting via Derbyshire lane, Park road, Barton dock road & Park way resuming at lostock circle in both directions."
The cause of the incident is not yet known.
Barton Road has since reopened, however The Melville pub remains in a police cordon.
