Police in Lanarkshire launch investigation after huts at primary school destroyed

Vandals have destroyed wooden huts used to teach children at a school in Hamilton.

Now Police Scotland are asking for help in tracing those responsible.

Reports say that “substantial damage” was caused to the wooden huts at St. Elizabeth’s Primary School in the town, with the incident said to have happened sometime between July 7 and 14.

A police source told Lanarkshire Live : “These huts are used by children at the school and will take considerable time and money to fix.”

Officers have launched an appeal asking for witnesses or those with information to come to forward.

Commenting on a post about the damage online, one furious local wrote: "Despicable.

"Staff spend countless hours to make outdoor spaces inviting for children and not to mention the money - it's an absolute shame for the children that attend."

Another wrote: "So sad.

"Hope the community come together and rebuild. Why are our schools not covered by CCTV for safety and security?"

Other people commenting on a post suggested that similar incidents happened at Townhead Primary and Nursery in Coatbridge and High Blantyre Primary.

Lanarkshire Live have not yet been able to confirm these incidents.

Anyone with any information should contact police on 101.

Information can also be shared anonymously via Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
