A 14-year-old boy required hospital treatment after being assaulted during a "targeted attack" at a Motherwell beauty spot at the weekend.
Police are appealing for information after the teenager was attacked at the Clyde Walkway between Baron’s Haugh Nature Reserve and the overbridge at Hamilton Road in the town.
The incident happened about 9pm Sunday (July 10).
The victim was left requiring treatment at Wishaw General to injuries on his hand and back. There are currently no descriptions of any potential suspects.
Officers are looking to speak to anyone who may have been using the Clyde Walkway at the time of the assault or who may have seen anything which could relate to the incident.
PC Ross Preston told Lanarkshire Live: “Although the motive for the attack has still to be confirmed, we believe it was a targeted attack.
“No matter the cause, the fact is that a 14-year-old boy has been hospitalised after being attacked by a group of people who have been brazen enough to carry out the attack in a commonly used area by the River Clyde.
"This sort of behaviour will not be tolerated."
Anyone with any information is asked to contact police on 101. Information can be left anonymously via Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
