Police in East London step up patrols after ‘erratic’ man enters mosque brandishing knife

Police in East London have stepped up patrols after a man entered a Whitechapel mosque and brandished a knife.

Met Police officers received a call just after midday on Tuesday to reports of a man behaving “erratically” and waving a knife in Ford Square Mosque.

The man’s motivations “remain unknown” and no members of the public have been injured, the Met said.

Police units attended the area and conducted a search but could not locate the man.

A spokesperson for the force said: “At this time, it is not believed any parties have been harmed and Police have enhanced their patrols in the area to support the community.”

Detectives have begun an investigation into the incident.
