Police in Dundee target 64 vehicles during anti-social driving operation

Police in Dundee have targeted anti-social drivers causing havoc in the city.

They stopped 64 vehicles during a major crackdown at the weekend.

They targeted cars and vans in South Road, Dayton Drive, Kingsway, Milton and the city centre areas on Saturday.

The operation was aimed at deterring and detecting anti-social driving.

The officers carried out the highly visible operation with support from a mobile CCTV van.

A number of offences were identified and 16 people will be reported to the Procurator Fiscal.

A number of other issues were dealt with by warnings and advice.

Some notable detections included a vehicle travelling at 80mph in a 40mph limit.

A 19 year old male will be reported to the Procurator Fiscal. Another vehicle was stopped due to the manner of driving and the occupant was found not to hold a licence.

A 37 year old man will be reported to the Procurator Fiscal and the vehicle was seized.

Sergeant Steve Livesey who led the operation said: “We are aware of concerns from the local community in Dundee about the anti-social use of vehicles and we will continue to act on these issues.

“We are committed to educating drivers in order to deliver longer term solutions to these problems and officers engaged with a large number of young people over the course of this operation.

“However, we will carry out enforcement action along with this and will not hesitate to act on any offences identified.

“I would encourage anyone with concerns about anti-social driving in their community to report this to police via 101.”
