Police have named the 16-year-old girl who died in a horrific motorway crash on Saturday.
We told you at the weekend how officers in Lanarkshire were appealing for information following the crash on the M73.
Now police have identified the victim as Sophie Laing from Cumbernauld.
The 62-year-old male driver of the vehicle Sophie was travelling in was taken to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital in Glasgow at the same time as her - his condition is unknown, but she unfortunately later died.
The driver of the other vehicle involved, a 42-year-old man, was not hurt, but was arrested in connection with a road traffic offence.
He was later released pending further enquiries.
The crash happened around 1.30pm near the Gartcosh junction on January 28, with the road closed for around seven hours while crash investigations were carried out - it reopened around 8.40pm on Saturday.
PC Paul Mallon told Lanarkshire Live: “Our thoughts remain with Sophie’s family and friends at this difficult time and we ask that their privacy is respected.
“Our enquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances and I would urge anyone who may have information which could assist to contact officers.”
Anyone with any information is asked to contact police on 101.
Information can also be left anonymously via Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
