Police are hunting for vandals that have damaged the pavilion at Dumfries’ Dock Park.
The damage, which included broken windows, took place at the weekend between 7pm on August 21 and 8am on August 22.
It comes just days after Dock Park was awarded the internationally-renowned Green Flag award which recognises quality green spaces.
Nith ward councillor John Campbell said: “It’s quite disappointing.
“We’ve just been awarded a Green Flag status, which recognises that Dock Park is one of the best parks in Scotland.
“Along with the Green Flag up at the Crichton I thought we were really punching above our weight in this region.
“It really gets me down when I hear stories of vandalism. It saddens me really that things like this are happening in our region, especially once you’ve been recognised for an award and then this happens
“We got all the funding we got to revamp Dock Park and make it one of the best places for people to visit – whether you’re a jogger, dog walker or parents with kids. I take my own grandkids down to Dock Park and it really saddens me when this type of thing happens.”
Fellow Nith ward member David Slater said: “They should be looking to put better security on these buildings.
