Police have issued CCTV images of two women they want to trace after thieves stole cash from a pensioner while she paid for parking in Kent.

The elderly woman was was targeted as she paid at a machine in The Mall, Maidstone, around 4.50pm on January 24.

Kent Police says “a quantity of cash in an envelope” was taken from the woman’s handbag.

PC Jason Hill said: “We have been investigating this incident and are now able to release CCTV images two people who may be able to assist our enquiries.

“While these offences are not common in this town, I would remind shoppers to be careful when out and about to avoid becoming victim to opportunist thieves.”

Kent Police advises people not to leave handbags unattended on top of prams, trolleys, wheelchairs or mobility scooters, and to always keep them zipped up and in sight. It also urges people not to carry large amounts of cash, and to consider using a purse chain.
