Police hunt suspect who many believe bears striking resemblance to Jeremy Clarkson

Police are hunting a man who many believe bears a striking resemblance to Jeremy Clarkson.

Officers at Kent Police last week released a CCTV image of a suspect believed to be involved in stealing a bank card from a handbag and going on a spending spree.

After the appeal was launched, many were quick to point out the similarities between the man and the 59-year-old former Top Gear host.

In a post on Facebook, police wrote: “Do you recognise this man? We believe he may have important information that can help us investigate the theft and fraudulent use of a bank card.

“The card is reported to have been used at various locations across Ashford in December 2019 after it was stolen from a handbag on 6 December.

“As part of ongoing enquiries, our investigators are now in a position to release a picture of a man who may be able to help them establish the full circumstances.”

The post has since been flooded with comments from people saying they initially thought the man was Clarkson.

One person wrote: “As soon as I looked at that photo I thought im sure thats Jeremy I had to keep looking at the photo he must have a double then (sic).”

Another wrote: “Jeremy Clarkson has been naughty again”, while another responded: “Can’t take him anywhere”.

One said: “I thought it was Jeremy Clarkson and I see I'm not the only one.”

Last year, a CCTV image of a thief, released as part of a police appeal, went viral with more than 11m shares and 30,000 comments as members of the public pointed out the suspect's likeness to Friends character Ross Geller.

David Schwimmer, the actor who played Ross, responded with a video on Twitter and Instagram in which the star was seen furtively glancing at a camera as he walked through a convenience store clutching cans of beer.

"Officers, I swear it wasn't me," he said in an accompanying post.

The suspect Abdulah Husseini, 36, was later arrested and jailed for theft and fraud offences.
