Police hunt for answers after block of flats deliberately set on fire

POLICE are hunting for answers after a block of flats in South Lanarkshire were deliberately set alight. 

Officers are appealing for information following the blaze in Hamilton on Monday, April 7.

Emergency crews were alerted to the inferno on Strathaven Road in the town at around 11.15am.

Luckily, the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service managed to tackle the flames and no one was injured during the incident.

Following the fire, cops have since revealed they are treating it as "wilful".

An investigation into the blaze is underway.

Constable Charles Johnston at Hamilton police office said: “Enquiries are ongoing, and the fire is being treated as wilful.

“Anyone with information that may assist our investigation should contact 101 quoting incident number 0959 of April 7, 2025.

"Alternatively, Crimestoppers can be contacted on 0800 555 111, where anonymity can be maintained.”
