Police hunt driver who 'tried to kidnap' girl, 15, and two others

Police are hunting a driver who could be behind a string of attempted kidnappings in Salford - which left the victims 'extremely shaken'. Officers were called out by the parents of a 15-year-old girl on Monday (November 21).

Greater Manchester Police say the teenager was approached by a male at a bus stop between the two roundabouts on Monton Green, in Monton, at approximately 6.15pm. It is believed that he made advances to her and tried to physically get her to go with him to his car, which was a dark hatchback.

After viewing CCTV footage, GMP is now 'possibly linking' the incident to two others in Salford that took place in the past fortnight. The force has set up Operation Wraith with dedicated detectives to investigate the offences, and detectives are appealing for dashcam footage to help them.

Detective Inspector Chris Horsfield, from GMP's Salford Division, said: “The victims have been left extremely shaken up by this encounter and it’s very important that we get this man identified and off the streets as soon as possible. We believe that the man we want to speak to may have been driving a dark-coloured hatchback car, but we need to review dashcam footage to identify the make, model and registration plate."

Detectives are keen to speak to anyone who may have dashcam footage from the following locations:

  • Rocky Lane/Monton Green/Monton High Street on Monday, November 21 between 6pm to 7pm
  • Mossfield Road/Ackworth Road, Swinton on Monday, November 21 between 8am to 9am
  • Liverpool Street, Salford, between Fitzwarren Street and Albion Way on Wednesday, November 16 between 7.45pm to 8.20pm

Anyone with footage from these locations is asked to email cctvretrieval@gmp.police.uk with their name and contact number and officers will reply with instructions to upload your footage. Alternatively, leave a voicemail with GMP on 0161 856 8361, call 101 or use the LiveChat function online, quoting log number 2786 of November 21, 2022.
