Drivers on an Ohio interstate encountered an unexpected sight over the weekend when two police horses were spotted trotting against traffic on Interstate 90 in downtown Cleveland. The incident, which occurred on Saturday afternoon, caused a unique traffic jam as the horses navigated through slowing vehicles and eventually brought traffic to a halt.
Video footage captured by the Ohio Department of Transportation showed the horses initially near the unit's stables around 12:15 p.m. before making their way onto the interstate. The animals were seen moving westbound in the eastbound lanes, prompting a police cruiser with flashing lights to follow closely behind.
Cleveland Police later confirmed that the horses were part of the department's mounted division and had strayed from their intended path during what was described as routine care and exercise. Fortunately, officers were able to quickly corral the horses and ensure their safety without any further incidents.
The amusing nature of the situation did not go unnoticed, with online observers finding humor in the unexpected highway escapade. Even the Ohio Department of Transportation joined in on the fun, quipping on Twitter about the 'real horsepower' causing the traffic disruption and humorously inquiring about any injuries with a playful 'Neigh' at the end.
