Police helicopter and dog unit scrambled to find driver who 'ran off'

A huge police response including a helicopter and dog unit were reportedly deployed after a West Lothian driver ran away from police when they attempted to pull them over.

As well as local road policing officers, the force helicopter, a dog unit and offers from West Lothian Police were drafted in to trace a motorist who was allegedly chased within the Bathgate area on Tuesday.

Edinburgh Live reports that officers took to Twitter to make the public aware of the incident and said after a routine stop, the driver made off and was eventually found "hiding in woods."

The driver was arrested for multiple offences as the Livingston Road Policing Unit also uploaded a picture of the suspects supposed drug wipe test which appears to show a positive result for cannabis.

They added: "LivingstonRP had a brief pursuit within the Bathgate area of West Lothian today. Driver ran off but was traced hiding in woods by @polscotdogs @polscotair & @WestLothPolice assisted searching for the driver.

"They were arrested & reported to @COPFS for a number of offences."
