Police given dispersal powers in Cwmbran after spate of incidents

A dispersal order will be in place in parts of Cwmbran town centre following several reports of anti-social behaviour. Gwent Police said the order will come into effect at 1pm on Saturday and remain in place until 10pm on Sunday, February 26.

The order - which is granted under the Anti-Social Behaviour Crime and Policing Act 2014 - covers the areas outlined on the map below. These places include Cwmbran Leisure and supermarkets outside the town centre, such as Aldi, Morrisons, Lidl, and Sainsbury’s.

Police officers and PCSOs will have extra powers to instruct anybody who is causing, or is likely to cause harassment, alarm or distress to leave the area. If they return to that area after being moved on, they face being arrested.

PC Jason Ghalamkary said: "Following reports of anti-social behaviour from residents and businesses in the area, we have issued this dispersal order that covers Cwmbran town centre.

"Our officers are committed to protecting our communities, and will take action against anyone intent on causing harm or disorder. “If you have concerns about anti-social behaviour, you can report them by calling 101, or by sending us a direct message on social media.”
