West Yorkshire Police have slammed a selfish group of people who ignored the coronavirus lockdown and went to a Wakefield park for ice cream.
While most of the country was confined to their homes on March 25, dozens of people flocked to Pugneys Country Park and were seen socialising in large groups and eating ice cream.
Police tweeted a photograph of a busy car park at the county park and wrote: "Only go outside for food, health reasons or work (where this absolutely cannot be done form home).
"Pugneys park this afternoon. Come on people this isn't rocket science!"
The government ordered people to only leave their homes under a list of “very limited purposes”, banned public gatherings of more than two people and ordered the closure of non-essential shops.
The unprecedented lockdown measures aim to curb the spread of Covid-19, which has infected more than 9,500 people across the UK and claimed 463 lives.
There are also 423 confirmed cases in Yorkshire, after another 98 were diagnosed yesterday, and more than 50 in Leeds, where four people have died after contracting the virus.
Yesterday, firefighters criticised selfish groups of people who had been flouting the lockdown measures and having dangerous barbecue parties on Yorkshire moorland.
