Forensic teams from Merseyside Police remain at the scene of a fatal flat fire in Kirkdale.

Four firefighters entered the property to fight the fire and search the property for occupants - but sadly a body was found inside the ground floor property.

A spokesperson for Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service said: "Sadly, during their search firefighters discovered the body of a deceased casualty."

The spokesperson had earlier confirmed to the ECHO it was a "serious fire".

Merseyside Police and North West West Ambulance were in attendance at the property.

Images taken by the ECHO showed police cordoned off a large part of the road while fire crews are at the scene.

Forensic officers could also be seen working at the scene of the fire and taking images inside the cordon.
