Police find body in car during search for missing Fife woman Leeanne Rutherford

Police have said that the body of a woman was found inside a car in the search for missing Leeanne Rutherford, who went missing from Fife four days ago.

Officers say that a formal identification is yet to take place but that the 47-year-old’s family have been notified of the discovery.

A female’s body was discovered in a vehicle in the Queen Elizabeth Forest Drive area close to Aberfoyle around 2.30pm on Monday, February 20.

Leeanne had gone missing from Glenrothes on Thursday, February 16, the Daily Record.

Police say that she was last spotted close to the Collydean area at 10.50am. Officers said at the time that her disappearance was “out of character.”

Over the weekend police had released CCTV images of her car believing she had been driving the vehicle.

A Police Scotland statement said: "The body of a woman was found in a car in the Queen Elizabeth Forest Drive area near Aberfoyle around 2.30pm on Monday, February 20.

"Formal identification has yet to take place but the family of Leeanne Rutherford, reported missing from Glenrothes, have been informed. There do not appear to be any suspicious circumstances and a report will be sent to the Procurator Fiscal."
