New South Wales police say homicide detectives are investigating the deaths of a man and a woman whose bodies were found at an apartment building in Sydney’s inner west.
Police said they discovered the man’s body in the courtyard of a building on Conder Street in Burwood on Monday morning. They later found the woman’s body with stab wounds.
Police were yet to formally identify the man or the woman as of Monday evening.
NSW police superintendent Christine McDonald said police were working to determine whether the incident was domestic violence-related.
“What I can say is that violence against any person is not and will not be tolerated,” she said.
Police were yet to disclose whether the man or woman knew each other and, if so, what the nature of their relationship was.
“I think it’s too early at this stage for me to say that it’s a murder-suicide or for me to even confirm that it’s domestic related, because we simply don’t know at this stage,” McDonald said.
“It’s really important that we formally identify the two deceased persons, not only for the investigation but also for their families as well.”
They are described as being of Asian appearance and aged in their 20s or 30s.
Police said their bodies were found after emergency services were called to the building complex just after 9.45am to conduct a welfare check.

Detectives found the woman’s body at a unit in the building complex, police said.
A second crime scene has been established where her body was found, which police said would undergo forensic examination.
Police have asked anyone with information in relation to the incident to contact Crime Stoppers.
