Police explain increased presence on Metrolink last night

Metrolink passengers in north Manchester may have noticed an increased police presence on the network last night. Greater Manchester Police (GMP) say this was officers deterring crime and anti-social behaviour in the area.

GMP Transport Unit officers covering the Newton Heath, Clayton and Openshaw areas partnered with Metrolink staff to keep the network safe for users. Posting to Twitter in the early hours of Thursday morning, GMP Newton Heath, Clayton & Openshaw said: "GMP Transport Unit officers patrolling with GM TravelSafe and Metrolink staff in North Manchester this evening to tackle crime and ASB in the area. If you're travelling, stay safe and have a good evening."

GMP urges anyone who witnesses anti-social behaviour to report it via the 101 non-emergency line, or at the force's website. They said: "From aggressive, noisy or abusive behaviour to neighbourhood disturbances involving drugs or animals, antisocial behaviour takes many forms. If you’ve witnessed antisocial behaviour, please report it to us."
