Police dogs snare alleged drug dealers after report of armed gang in Edinburgh

Police dogs caught two alleged drug dealers in Edinburgh after cops responded to reports of a gang of armed men.

The dogs, Tora and Loki, were deployed in the city’s Wester Hailes area on Saturday during the operation.

Eight people, who were allegedly armed with weapons and involved in drug dealing, had been brought to the attention of police.

Some of the group ran off, police said, but Tora managed to stop two of the suspects.

Loki then found discarded crack cocaine and cannabis, officers claimed.

The incident was detailed by Police Scotland’s dogs unit on its Twitter feed. It read: “With reports of eight people, with weapons, drug dealing in Westerhailes, #PDTora, #PDLoki & #S311 deployed.

“Some ran off, but 2 stopped when PD Tora “told them to”. Loki then found some discarded crack cocaine & cannabis. Enquiries continuing by @PSOSEdinburgh.”

Police said a quantity of drugs and cash was allegedly recovered during a patrol just days earlier.

The force tweeted: “Addressing concerns from local residents, officers carried out plain clothes patrols in the Wester Hailes area this week and twice recovered dealer quantities of drugs and cash. Individuals are to appear in court on later dates.”
