Police dog Fury finds clothing after Southport chase ends in crashes

Police are on the scent of occupants of a vehicle that collided with a passing vehicle and a police car - thanks to police dog Fury. Merseyside Police dogs section sent Fury into action following a pursuit in Southport that saw the offending vehicle hit two other vehicles, including a police one, before the occupants stopped the vehicle and made their escape on foot.

Fury quickly arrived on the scene and swiftly located some discarded clothing in undergrowth. The items of clothing have been sent for forensic testing and officers hope this will help lead them to the vehicle's occupants.

Fury is part of the Merseyside Police team that has a dedicated police dog kennels where a number of different breeds are trained from a very young age. Police say that German Shepherds, Springer Spaniels, Labradors and Belgian Shepherds make the best police dogs through their athletic ability and ability to learn.

Each day the Merseyside operational police dogs are put through their paces at work before going home to assume the role of a domestic pet. A typical day for these intelligent animals includes using a wide range of skills.
