SA Police continue their search for a missing person after a kayak was found washed ashore on Thursday.

Police began the search after a blue and white two-seater kayak was found washed up at the Rapid Bay camping ground, about an hour south of Adelaide, around 10am Thursday.

There were fresh abalone and an esky on board.

The PolAir helicopter searched waters and a search of local beaches was carried out on foot to try to locate the kayak's owner, but nobody was found.

A police spokesperson confirmed the search was continuing today, with local patrols assisting.

PolAir may be called in to help again today, the spokesperson said.

Anyone who may know the potential owner of the kayak is urged to contact police.

The incident comes four months after police conducted a search in the same area after another empty kayak was found.

After appeals from police at the time, a man identifying himself as the owner called in, saying he had fallen out while fishing and could not tow the kayak back, so left it adrift as he swam to shore.
