Lucknow: A constable allegedly shot dead his wife and later shot himself at their rented home in Azadnagar of Krishnanagar on Friday night over a family discord.
The couple was identified as Sarvesh Rawat (32) and Meera Rawat (28). She was employed with the post office. Sarvesh had come to the city for Rakshabandhan.
“Prima facie, it surfaced that they had some argument and the issue of discord was in court.
They had struck a truce recently,” said ACP Krishnanagar, Vinay Dwivedi. DCP South, Vikas Mishra said the constable was married to Meera in 2019 and they had an 11-month-old daughter. “The constable probably was in anger and shot his wife in her head first and then shot himself in the room on the first floor,” said the police.
The neighbours called the police and rushed both to the hospital where the woman was pronounced dead. The constable also died during treatment at the hospital.
